(Msg. 1 of 9)
Im doing an engine swap on my 87 camaro with another 2.8 v6 that has 30k original miles ( not going v8 because of all the crap that has to be changed ) and I want to know what I can do to make it sound just as good and maybe even perform just as good. Im a nub when it comes to cars, so any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks - Markus Allen Jr.

Just about anything that can be done to v8 can be done the 2.8. - msd blaster coil - head port/polish - edelbrock intake manifold - edelbrock/crane/compcams camshaft - compcams roller tip rockers - dynomax catback exhaust - magnaflow/dynomax catalytic convertor - pace setter headers - jet/hypertech chip - k&n filter - accel injectors the list goes on........ if you go to your local performance shop (they have them out hereanyway) they sell books and one of them is v6 performance. That thingis like a bible if you wanna do up your 6 cyl and you'll be amazed athow fast some of them actually are. Also.... perhaps Grand National turbo setup?? just a thought :P

You'll have to spend major bucks to get the performance from a 2.8 to match a stock V8, especially thw torque.

well I ended up getting a smallblock 350 for my camaro instead of spending money on hotrodding a v6. Ive got another wiring harness, transmission, computer, and radiator. What else might I need to make this smog legal? I really appreciate the help : ) - Markus

for smog legal? well if you're from Ontario like me... smog legal means you have to have whatever emission systems that originally came on that engine. (I'm an apprentice mechanic, also licensed drive clean for 4 years) So it could have PCV,EGR, catalytic converters, thermostatic air tube, A.I.R. injection... just find out what year the engine is out of and check out the emissions sticker on the hood of the car. That should tell you everything

If your not in Ontario then you just need to keep cats - stock oraftermarket. If your in California you need everything off the donorcar. Personally I'd just buy an original complete V8 car and modifyit in an emissions restricted situation. That swap is alot ofwork.

I?ve actually been contemplating myself, as to whether I should do a 350 swap in my 86, or turbo the 2.8. I?ve seen 400 horse saturns under boost, now with nearly an extra litre and 2 extra cylinders, fast v6 camaros shouldn?t be unheard of. Infact I have a T3 turbo that I bought for my saturn, but since I got the camaro, I'd much rather use it for that. [Message edited by 92sc2 on May 5, 2006 at 12:33 AM]
